It is with great pleasure that I write these words for Brian Hubbard, LICSW, a truly remarkable and unique individual. I first met Brian when he was active in advocating for services for clinical social workers to be mental health providers for physically and mentally disabled clients being served by the RI Vocational Rehabilitation program. At the time, I was Administrator of Vocational Rehabilitation (VR). His advocacy was extremely powerful and effective and laid the groundwork for the policy change at VR to include clinical social work services to our clients. Mr. Hubbard was also very active on the RI Independent Living Council, serving for a ten year period while Chairing the Council for a four year term. He took an active leadership role in Implementing many constructive changes for the improvement of Independent Living Services in Rhode Island

Brian was the founder and first President/CEO of Counseling for Independent Living, Inc. (CIL), the nation's first program to provide professional counseling services to individuals with severe physical disabilities and their families on a community-based, systematic level. In this capacity he successfully competed at the National level to develop and implement innovative rehabilitation programs for persons with disabilities. Brian's other accomplishments include serving as a panel reviewer for federal grant proposals and providing professional training to a wide variety of service providers.

Brian is nationally recognized for his pioneering work, leadership role and accomplishments including authorship of his wonderful books, "FROM EMPTINESS TO EMPOWERMENT" and "EMPOWERMENT THERAPY", innovative books which layout a counseling approach that he has developed and copyrighted.

Brian Hubbard's energy, intellect, and leadership capacity make him a powerful individual capable of making tremendously positive contribution to most businesses, organizations and/or any advocacy and consumer groups for the disabled, the chronically ill as well as the elderly.
