It gives me great pleasure to write these words for Brian J. Hubbard, LICSW, BCD. I have known Mr. Hubbard for approximately thirteen years. During the past thirteen years my contact with Mr. Hubbard has been one of working collaboratively on a number of professional projects.
Mr. Hubbard has been an instructor in our Professional Continuing Education Program at the Graduate School of Social Work. In addition, we have worked together on matters of direct practice, community organization and administration particularly with respect to services to other professionals in the area of clinical social work. Brian has also served as a field instructor supervising clinical social work second year students.
Mr. Hubbard is extremely well known and respected for his leadership role in social work. He is the founder and past President of Counseling for Independent Living, the nation's first program to provide professional and mental health services to the disabled and chronically medically ill population on a community-based, systematic level. Mr Hubbard developed and wrote the grant that provided the funds for this program, the grant ranking first nationwide. The program was funded twice by the US Department of Education.
Mr. Hubbard is also the author of From Emptiness to Empowerment: Changing Physical and Other Losses Into Strengths. It is truly a wonderful book for the disabled, the chronically ill and the elderly. He developed and copyrighted "Empowerment Therapy," a structural, integrated approach to clinical practice that facilitates change and growth in the wake of loss and transition. The latter is based on his book.
I recommend Mr. Hubbard without reservation based upon his exceptional knowledge and renowned leadership in the field of social work. He demonstrates outstanding knowledge base and skills in direct practice, administration, supervision, consultation/training, and community and program development.
