I write these words to extol Brian Hubbard's outstanding public speaking skills. I personally witnessed one of Mr. Hubbard's inspirational speeches on June 16th, 2001, at the Tech Access Rhode Island annual meeting. His presentation was both extremely moving and inspiring. As Secretary of State of Rhode Island, I presented Mr. Hubbard with the Rhode Island Award for Personal and Professional Excellence and a Secretary of State Citation for his extraordinary efforts.
Mr. Hubbard is a powerful voice for the disabled. In spite of his inability to see or hear, he has the ability to connect with his audience in a unique way. He has persevered and achieved much success in life beyond his public speaking ability. The obstacles Brian faces on a daily basis are enormous, yet he has reached remarkable heights, earning a Masters Degree in clinical social work, winning three gold medals as a member of the US Disabled Ski Team, writing two inspirational books, and developing the nation's first program of empowerment counsehing for the disabled and chronically ill.
Few people have achieved such success, with or without overwhelming physical challenges. Mr. Hubbard's inspiration and wisdom have already enriched many lives. I hope that he will have the opportunity to continue to spread his message of believing in oneself against all odds to communities throughout the country.
Sincerely
James R. Langevin Member of Congress
