It is with extreme pleasure that I write these words for Brian Hubbard. I have known Brian since 1967 when we were classmates at the University of Massachusetts and feel confident that I can attest to his expertise as a lecturer.

As the President of the University of Massachusetts Alumni Association and Clinical Professor at Tufts University, I have been called upon to speak many times throughout the years, most recently at the Commencement 2000 ceremonies at UMASS. I understand the challenges that speakers face connecting with and holding the attention of their audiences. Brian has demonstrated to me those exceptional skills necessary to be a popular, engaging speaker. He has spoken on my behalf at fraternity meetings as my "Big Brother" at UMASS and I have heard him on several other occasions. I have always been extremely impressed by his articulate, confident, and humorous persona.

Brian has always been able to extemporize on a variety of subjects, but especially about the empowerment of an individual faced with a lifetime of not only physical, but emotional challenges. The fact that he has overcome a disability (blindness and profound deafness) to achieve such personal and professional successes increases his effectiveness as a lecturer, as his passion for his work is evident in his speeches. Counseling others through the spoken and the written word (he is the author of From Emptiness to Empowerment.- Changing Phjsical and Other Losses into Strengths), Brian has reached a population in need of concrete strategies for turning loss into a positive experience.

Without hesitation I give my highest professional and personal recommendation for Brian Hubbard.
