Empowerment Therapy

Being an individual challenged with blindness caused by retinitis pigmentosa, I find Brian J. Hubbard to be extremely motivating and inspirational. I have known Brian well since 1975, and have sponsored him as a member of the US Disabled Ski Team. In his vast knowledge as a clinical mental health therapist of the human issues and dynamics of painful losses, Brian not only clarifies the prieving process very articulately and sensitively; but more importantly, through a clear step-by-step process, shows how to face the challenge by making positive associations with the pain of growth, making new meaning out of the experience of loss, and finding what I call "bridges" to discover alternative ways to meet our fundamental physical and emotional needs. I recommend anyone who has dealt with any loss, regardless of the type and magnitude to read "From Emptiness to Empowerment: Changing Physical and Other Losses Into Strengths.

Brian Hubbard has been a keynote speaker for the Foundation Fighting Blindness on several occasions, and his leadership role was crucial in developing and presiding the Virginia chapter of the Foundation. Despite blindness and deafness, he has lived a very rewarding and successful life and is a tremendous inspiration to anyone who meets him.
