It gives me extreme pleasure to provide these words for a truly gifted and exceptional individual, Brian J. Hubbard. I have known Mr. Hubbard in a professional capacity for approximately twelve years. We met when he and I collaborated our agencies to provide services for chronically ill and physically disabled clients. Mr. Hubbard is the Founder and former President/CEO of Counseling for Independent Living. Inc., the nation's very first program to provide professional counseling and mental health services to the physically disabled and chronically medically ill individuals and their families on a community-based, systematic level. This agency which he directed from 1989-1996 was funded primarily from Federal grants provided by the U.S. Department of Education through grant proposals which he wrote without any assistance and/or consultation. The two grant proposals ranked fourth and first consecutively in nationwide competition.
In addition to providing direct services, supervision, administration and community development (inciuding Board Development), he was highly regarded and effective as an educator providing training services to many professionals and agencies, including ours at Family Service Association of Greater fall River, Inc. (MA). The many training services he provided at our agency were evaluated as excellent overall and were enthusiatfically received by our staff. It is my understanding that his many training workshops and seminars have received excellent ranking overall, over 95%of the workshops being ranked as excellent overall. with the leader (Mr. Hubbard) and the workshop content being the most impressive features.
Mr. Hubbard has also written an excellent book, FROM EMPTINESS TO Empowerment- CHANGING PHYSICAL AND OTHER LOSSES INTO STRENGTHS. which has recently been published on a smaller scale to accompany his workshops but has been widely received and is under contract with a literary agent for eventual publication with a major publisher for a national audience. Mr. Hubbard is very widely known in this region and even has a national reputation for his work dealing with traumatic losses, chronic illnesses, aging, disabilities and transitional adjustment issues. He has appeared extensively in the media. His innovativeness and skill level is of far reaching proportions. He has also developed and copyrighted Empowerment Therapy, an integrated, structural approach to promote change and growth in the wake of losses and transition. As you can see, I have nothing but the highat regard for this unique and gifted individual as a professional as well as personally.
